The photo on the left of some building I wandered past yesterday in Times Square was captured using the iPhone 4’s default camera application; the photo on the right is the same image imported into the Camera+ app ($1.99 in the iTunes store) with the app’s “Clarity” filter applied.
The difference is in the details — and the details are definitely more noticeable.
This trick is one of many NBC’s Anthony Quintano offered in a recent guide detailing how to capture and share better Instagram photos. Quintano is one of the best adopters of Instagram as a photojournalism medium, and his techniques extend far beyond the Instagram app.

Ahmadinejad: Iran will free two American hikers
Two Americans jailed for more than two years will be freed in two days, Iran’s president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said.
The president made the statement in an interview with NBC News journalist Ann Curry, Bloomberg reported.
Shane Bauer and Josh Fattal had been sentenced to eight years of prison time in Iran after crossing into the country while hiking along the Iraq-Iran border. The two, along with Bauer’s fiancé Sarah Shourd, had been accused of espionage.
Shourd was imprisoned with both men for more than a year before being released in 2010 on humanitarian grounds.
It has been widely believed that both men would be released during Ramadan, when prisoners are typically pardoned.
Freedom won’t come without a price for the men; CNN reports both will have to post $500,000 bail each before being released. Shourd release was also on the condition of $500,000 bail last September.
NBC’s interview with Ahmadinejad was scheduled to be broadcast on Tuesday.

![This will be the third time an interview with President Barack Obama has aired before the Super Bowl; last year Obama sat down with FOX News commentator Bill O’Reilly for an interview that aired before the 2011 Super Bowl, and Obama taped an interview with Lauer in 2009.
