Daisey Shatters Glass: 'This American Life' pulls story on Apple factory amid revelations of falsities
“It was completely wrong for me to have it on your show,” Mike Daisey tells Ira Glass on the upcoming “This American Life” show entitled Retraction. “That’s something I deeply regret.”
Glass said many of the things claimed by Daisey were fact-checked on the episode “Mr. Daisey and the Apple factory” and turned out to be vetted, “except for the underage workers, who are rare.”
“Too many of the details about the people he says he met are in dispute for us to stand by the story,” Glass said. “I suspect that many things that (Daisey) claims to have experienced personally did not actually happen, but listeners can judge for themselves.”
Press release: 'This American Life' says Foxconn story 'fabricated'
“This American Life,” distributed by WBEZ Chicago and around the world by Public Radio International, admits a story it ran in January contained fabrications during a monologue delivered by Mike Daisey on conditions of workers at Apple’s Foxconn factory.
Host Ira Glass says the program will air a retraction tonight, with multiple airings throughout the weekend on public radio stations in the United States and around the world.
